(Port)Wine of the Month: November 2017: Alves de Sousa Abandonado 2005

There are very few things better than calling a winemaker and asking for favourite restaurants in his hometown, then one hour later finding yourself with the winemaker in the restaurant enjoying his wines.

After his success with the first vintage of Abandonado in 2004 there was some pressure on Tiago Alves de Sousa's shoulders for the next. A tiny rim with almost black colour. The nose reveals fresh fruits with a minimum overripeness, which gives it a certain finesse, red fruit and tobacco. Noticeable tannins on the palate, cherry, raspberry and chocolate. Long, complex aftertaste. Will improve with time. 17+/20
